AFC WIMBLEDON 2 v 3 BRISTOL ROVERS

Apologies for the lack of commentary in the second half, the internet connection at Kingsmeadow completely failed. A full match report is now up on the website.

  • Hello and welcome to this historic day as AFC Wimbledon begin life in the Football League, please follow the action with our live text commentary below.

46 min: After Haydon the Womble hits the post in that penalty challenge, we're back under way here, no changes.

HALF TIME: General consensus is the Dons have been a bit out of their depth but I think Terry is going to have given them a bit of a rocketing at half time and they'll come out pumped up. It doesn't look like there will be many chandes as the subs are all out on the pitch warming up and watching some penalty competition going on, which the keeper seems to have won with a not-too-bad save.

HALF TIME: The Dons go in lucky to be just 2-1 behind as Brown pushes a header on to the crossbar and then Gwillim somehow diverts Harrold's effort over the bar when the goal was gaping. From the corner, Virgo is left all alone but shoots over. Terry Brown follows the players of with a face like thunder. The Dons' defending has been dreadful.

45 min: Three minutes added on as the rain begins to come down here. They sky boys by the dugouts have an unmbrella, wimps.

42 min: Great time for my connection to fail. Stuart scores AFC Wimbledon's first goal in the Football League, glancing Sammy Hatton's free kick into the top corner. That's given everyone in the ground a huge lift and 2-1 is a much better half time score than 2-0.

39 min: GOAL!!! Captain Jamie Stuart gets the Dons back in the game.

32 min: Dons should have one back, they can't waste those chances at this level. Jolley sets Midson free and he gives the ball to Luke Moore but it gets caught up under his feet, a bit like Jolley earlier, and Bevan gets out to block.

29 min: Yet more defensive mistakes from Wimbledon almost let McGleish in again but Stuart last-ditch lunge recovers teh situation. Bit better going forward now from the Dons but Midson cannot quite get to Yussuff's cross at the near post.

25 min: Wimbledon look shell-shocked if I'm honest. They've played well but those two mistakes have left them jittery and it's all Rovers now. They're pressing Wimbledon and forcing them into long ball.

19 min: GOAL - Wimbledon to do this the hard way then. This time they oeverplay the ball and Johnson gets robbed by McGleish on the half way line. He's through on goal but Brown saves his first shot, only for the ball to come straight back to McGleish and he crosses for MATT HARROLD to head in via Sam Hatton's leg.

19 min: GOAL. 2-0 and another Dons mistake.

16 min: GOAL - Seb Brown tries a quick throw to Wellard but he is closed down and robbed brilliantly by Gill, who feeds SCOTT MCGLEISH in the box and he keeps his cool to slot past Brown. Not what the fans wanted.

16 min: GOAL. Bristol Rovers lead.

12 min: YELLOW CARD. I said Gwillim was going to have trouble with Ayinsah and he couldn't cope with him them. Ayinsah runs past him, Gwillim stumbles and gives the slightest nudge to Ayinsah on his way down in the box and Ayinsah tumbles like he has been shot. Decision - dive and a yellow card. A bit off a let off for Gwillim though, well beaten there.

11 min: You know what? It's a good game this. Harrold should do far better with that header in the box but only directs it to the corner flag.

9 min: YELLOW CARD. Hmmmm, this referee is out to make a name for himself me thinks. Mr Stroud books Zebrowski though he did appear to get the ball even if the tackle was a little from behind and a bit strong.

6 min: oh Jolley should have the Dons' first goal in the Football League as he finds himself through on goal but he looks nervous and Bevan closes him down and pushes his shot over the bar.

4 min: YELLOW CARD: Welcome to the Football League Jamie Stuart, booked rather harshly for a trip on Harrold. The free kicks come in and goes all the way across, only just missing the far post. Nervy statrt.

2 min: Gwillim's going to have a long afternoon against Ayinsah I think, he's one od Rover's main threats.

1 min: Here we go..... Rovers' Matt Harald gets the game under way. Wimbledon get a free kick straight away and Seb Brown will have their first kick of the ball in the Football League.

12:43pm: Out come the teams, Wimbledon in all white commemorative strip, replicating the first kit they wore when the old Wimbledon first made the Football League.

12.40pm: The starting line up is the same as at Crawley last week: So, Brown, Hatton, Stuart, Johnson, Gwillim, Porter, Yussuff, Wellard, Jolley, L Moore, Midson, Subs: Turner, Bush, S Moore, Ademeno, Minshull.

12.37pm: What a day this promised to be, already the atmosphere is amazing and the ground is getting packed out. Haydon's doing his thing down below me to 'We are Wimbledon'.

12.35pm: Firstly, apologies for the late start, there was traffic and now there's no wireless and I'm doing this on the slowest of slowest 3G cards....
