Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition after being hit by a car near Mitcham Common.

The 67-year-old male cyclist still remains in a serious condition in hospital after the crash, which happened in Madeira Road shortly after 5pm on Tuesday, April 19.

The driver of the car, which has been described as a blue Peugeot 307, stopped at the scene and has been co-operating with the police.

Madeira Road was closed until 9.45pm while police carried out an investigation into what had happened. No arrests have been made.
