A cyclist has been taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition after being hit by a car near Mitcham Common.
The crash between the car and the cyclist, a man in his 60s, happened shortly after 5pm on Tuesday, April 19, in Madeira Road.
A spokesman from the London Ambulance Service said: “We sent a number of resources, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and London’s Air Ambulance, arriving within six minutes.
“We took patient as a priority to a major trauma centre.”
Merton police tweeted a photograph of the air ambulance landing in Mitcham Common at 5.50pm, describing the crash as a “serious accident”.

Madeira Road was closed until 9.45pm while police carried out an investigation into what happened, with cars gridlocked in the surrounding areas.
On Wednesday, April 20, Merton police confirmed the driver of the car remained at the scene of the accident and co-operated with the police.
