Detectives investigating a Mitcham fight involving axes and a sword have launched a murder investigation after one of the victims died in hospital.
The 26-year-old man, who suffered serious head injuries in the Holborn Way brawl on Monday night, died yesterday morning at a central London hospital, the Metropolitan Police said.
A spokesman said: "A post-mortem examination will be organised in due course. Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not taken place."
Another 26-year-old and a 29-year-old were also seriously hurt and remain in hospital.
Five men, arrested on suspicion of violent disorder on Monday, have been bailed until later this month.
A sixth man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder is still in custody.
Detectives asked anyone with information about the fight to call 020 8721 4205, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
