By Anthony Fairclough, Merton Hall Road
Reading your story on the problems community groups are having with the facilities in Dundonald Rec, I must admit to finding Councillor Peter Walker's comments in response a little odd.
Merton Council has reduced its park maintenance budget so there is now no one around to open or maintain Dundonald Rec's pavillion facilities.
And yet he uses this as an opportunity to say: “They will have new loos and new changing rooms if the plans [to expand Dundonald Primary onto the Rec] go ahead.”
Given that it is the shortage of maintenance staff causing these problems, is he saying that the facilities will only be properly staffed and maintained if his plans to expand Dundonald school onto the Rec go ahead (in the face of massive public opposition)?
