By Paul Kirsten; Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), Mitcham
In response to his letter, 'Morden Tavern defenders were 'naive' to suggest co-operative', I feel it is Mr Clark who is naive.
The whole motive of running the pub had the St Helier Pub Group been successful would have seen it rejuvenated as a co-operative.
That means individuals would have paid for shares in the pub which means they would have had a direct influence in the business.
The shining example of this is The Hope in Carshalton, which is owned by a number of shareholders and is Croydon and Sutton CAMRA's Pub of the Year 2012.
Morden is ill-served by decent pubs selling real ales, or any ales come to think of it, so to totally lose the last estate pub in the area is a devastating blow, especially as Merton Council's planning committee was overturned by a Government planning officer.
I only hope Councillor Andrew Judge sleeps well in future.
