I write in response to your article (Merton Council wants your views on Circle Housing Merton Priory plans to regenerate three estates, September 25).

Circle Housing Merton Priory is consulting residents of Eastfields, High Path and Ravensbury on the possible regeneration of their neighbourhoods.

As demonstrated when we signed 10 Commitments with Merton Council on 3 September, the needs of all tenants and homeowners are central to the proposed regeneration.

This summer we undertook an extensive consultation programme which involved giving residents as many opportunities as possible to have their say.

Our consultation has included face-to-face contact with residents in their homes and at our community events and design workshops, site visits to regeneration schemes, attendance at resident meetings and regular written communication.

Circle Housing Merton Priory’s consultation is separate from Merton Council’s statutory consultation, which is being carried out to inform its Local Plan.

Residents can be rest assured that no decision about whether to go ahead with regeneration will be made until we have fully consulted them on the draft designs for their proposed new neighbourhoods.

We want to speak to every individual resident during autumn and winter.

The draft plans will go on display in a few weeks’ time and after these events we will be going door-to-door, making sure everyone who is affected by the regeneration proposals gets an opportunity to take part.

We are also working on the package of financial help and compensation we can offer residents affected by the regeneration plans.

We will publish details of this, together with the final plans, in January 2015.

The regeneration proposals offer residents the opportunity to help shape their neighbourhood for generations to come.

That is only possible if we have the full engagement of the communities affected.

We look forward to continuing our conversations with residents in the coming months.
