Went to use the pool at Wimbledon leisure centre Friday evening, only to be confronted with a sign informing me that both the main pool and training pool, have and will be closed from 30th June to 1st September - so all of the school summer holidays.
When I was child and when my children were of school age swimming was one of the main activities during summer holiday that were at least a twice-weekly routine come rain or shine and the pool was always very busy during the summer holidays as, like me, a lot of parents went with their children, or sent them to swim to while the days away.
I would just like to ask how does this make sense to close a pool during what must be the most busy time of the year! To refurbish, not for any other reason i.e safety reasons. Surely the autumn or winter months would have been a better time?
