I am writing in support of Alexander Meadows’ letter about stock car racing at Plough Lane.
I have been going to Wimbledon to the stock car for as long as I can remember with my family.
I love the racing and the family atmosphere at Plough Lane.
And no, I’m not a Jeremy Clarkson wannabe. I’m a 35 year old woman who loves stock car racing.
Anyone living anywhere near a sporting stadium has to expect a certain level of footfall and noise on meeting days, whether it be football, rugby or stock car.
As Alexander Meadows points out, there have been stock cars at Plough Lane for a long time, it’s part of the local area and its history, nobody moving to the area can claim to be surprised that there is stock car racing nearby.
I would suggest the writer of the anonymous letter visit Plough Lane on a race night.
She could see for herself families and friends enjoying the sport.
Although sitting inside is warmer, my personal recommendation is that she stand outside near the corner where the old scoreboard used to be, giving her a great view of the whole track.
That’s been my favourite spot since I was tall enough to see over the barrier, which was probably some time in 1984.
