Little Folk Sessions - 100 and Going Strong

Wimbledon Guardian: Little Folk With Albo Concerts

9:32am Friday 9th January 2015

On Friday, 23 January, American folk singer and Merton Council Volunteer of the Year Al Clogston will be celebrating his 100th Little Folk with Albo session at the Wimbledon Public Library. Albo learned much of his material in the back woods of Maine as a camper at Camp Yo Aunta on Lake Cobboseeconte. He carried on the folk music tradition as a music education major at the Hartt School, University of Hartford, and then professionally as a long term member of the Irish/American folk ensemble, the Hudson River Boys, based in Manhattan. When Al and his wife moved to Wimbledon and began to raise a family his folk activities were put on hold for a few years until in 2012 he saw a poster outside the library advertising for story time leaders. This soon led to his own Friday morning slot for which he adopted the Little Folk with Albo label he still uses for his performances. At one of Albo’s sessions you can expect to hear a blend of folk songs, camp songs, traditional children’s songs and Albo’s distinctive original songs for kids. The Wimbledon Library sessions are on Friday mornings from 11:15am to 11:45am. Albo’s library graduates (what he calls the children who used to frequent the sessions until they entered nursery) and their families can still catch Albo at his popular family concerts at the Colour House Theatre in Colliers Wood, Saturdays 7 February, 21 March and 2 May at 10:30am. Box office: 020 8542 5511 www.littlefolkwithalbo.com Based on information supplied by Warren Albert.
