Esher boss Ollie Smith may have been frustrated by a whistle happy referee on Saturday, but he was more than happy with another pre-season triumph.
The Molesey Road men beat French Federale One side Lille 24-13 at the weekend to make it two friendly wins from two games as Esher prepare for life in National Division One this term.
Prop Cameron Zeiss, winger Spencer Sutherland and full back Andy Wright all crossed the whitewash in a bad tempered affair that saw Lille’s Giorgi Tskitishvili shown a red card.
“I’m happy with the win in what was a scrappy game and particularly pleased with the attitude of the players,” said Esher head coach Smith.
“Chris Elder did fantastically well considering he has not played at 10 before and Macfarlane carried well – as did Sutherland.
“Both teams battled to play a free-flowing, pre-season type game, but the referee seemed very keen to blow his whistle.”
