Weston takes his Gander Green Lane bow... finally
Sutton United defender Rhys Weston finally made his home debut last weekend in a vital 3-0 win over Weston-super-Mare.
Now the loanee from AFC Wimbledon faces two equally pivotal games on the road as United strive to secure a place in the Skrill South play-offs.
Weston made the move to Gander Green Lane at the beginning of January, but a catalogue of postponements has deprived the United home faithful of his services.
Weston, who struggled at League Two Dons with a series of niggling injuries, said: "I was delighted with our performance against Weston-super-Mare. To get through with a clean sheet and no injury concerns was much-needed.
"Conditions in the first half favoured us and we went in at half time 2-0 up. We weathered the storm, in both senses, in the second half and scored on the counter attack to finish off the game."
United, fourth in the table, go to sixth place Dover tonight [Tuesday], before travelling to Eastbourne Borough, in eighth, on Saturday.
The back-log of matches will test the 33-year-old's fitness, as the former Welsh international has not played three games in a week since mid-October, and is looking forward to the challenge both physically and in a football sense.
He said: "We want to play games and not have a fixture pile up. We will be playing Saturday and Tuesday until the end of the season which is a good endurance test.
"Although we definitely want to avoid having to play Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday."
Weston's loan spell at United has been extended until March 6.
Doubling up: Dale Binns' strike on Saturday brought his season's tally to two goals
