Kingstonian out to nip Rose in the bud
Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson may be full of admiration for Dulwich Hamlet boss Gavin Rose, but it will count for nothing come Sunday.
Third placed Ks host second placed Dulwich in the Ryman Premier League clash of the weekend at Kingsmeadow looking to make a statement of league intent.
Champion Hill chief Rose, assisted by ex-Ks man Junior Kadi, recently collected the manager of the month award for December.
And Dowson is clear his side represent a major obstacle to his own team’s promotion aspirations this term.
“They are a terrific management team,” he said.
“They have done a brilliant job of bringing the youngsters through and getting them up the leagues.
“I think they will do really well and you have to respect what they have achieved.”
He added: “This is a massive game for us.
“We have not beaten any of the top three or four sides this season.
“I do not think we will win the league, but if we are going to achieve anything this year we have to start doing that.
“We will have to do it in the play-offs and we have to get that psychological edge before the end of the season.”
Ks, who lost 3-1 at Harlow Town in the League Cup on Tuesday, go in to the contest with a clean bill of health and with Dowson hunting the magic ingredient that can secure Conference South football for next season.
“We only need one or two players, but they need to bring us something special if we are going to get promoted,” he said.
“We need someone who has been there and done it.
“I’m working hard to do that, because we have an opportunity this season that e cannot afford to waste.”
But whoever the Kingsmeadow chief may be targeting, he know he faces stiff competition from league big spenders Margate under new boss Terry Brown.
“They have made a great appointment in Terry Brown. He is the best manager in non-League football,” said Dowson.
“His record speaks for itself.
“Margate can make offers no other club at this level can. Someone always comes from nowhere to get in the play-offs and I’d say they’ll be up there.”
