Battersea Ironsides are in the second round of the Junior Vase after a dramatic match at Harrow on Saturday.

The sides could not be separated after extra time, locked at 33-33, but Ironsides progressed courtesy of scoring four tries to Harrow’s two.

Ironsides opened the scoring with Ben Siaw’s penalty but Harrow took the lead with a converted try. At the break, Johnny Kirwan’s try kept Ironsides in touch with their hosts at 15-8 down.

Tyson Peters then grabbed a try on the restart, which was duly converted. Ironsides took control thanks to Tom Lambert and Kirwan both going over, and Siaw kicking one conversion.

However, Harrow fought back to level the scores and an exchange of penalties meant extra time was needed with the scoreline locked at 30-30.

It was a similar story in extra time with Siaw kicking a penalty, only for Harrow to respond in like. But with the extra tries overall, it was Ironsides cheering at the whistle.

This weekend, Ironsides travel to Chipstead in Surrey Division Two.

Bank of England had no game this weekend, but they return to action on Saturday with a trip to Harlequins Amateurs in the Herts & Middlesex Division One.
