Croydon Harriers youngsters won three borough cross-country titles at the Croydon Schools championships, writes Matthew Kiernan.

Michael Eagling led a Trinity School one-two in the year sevens' race, chased valiantly by Angus Harrington.

In the year eights and nines category, Omar Harhara (Riddlesdown) broke away from the leading pack with 400m to go to take the win, with Charlie Brackenborough (Trinity) not far behind in the runners-up spot.

Stevie Lawrence won the senior girl’s race, while Abbie Burrett (Coloma) and Ellie McCormack (Thomas More) were one-two in the year eights' girl’s race.

Their club colleagues were in action at the Surrey Masters’ cross-country championships at Richmond Park.

Andy Del Nevo was the first Harrier home over the 10km course in 40 minutes, 58 seconds in 32nd, while Martin Rowe (49th, 42.54) and Robert Rye (72nd, 48.37) completed the scoring trio to ensure the team finished in eighth position.

In the M50 race, Colin Oxlade was 58th in 44.37, and was supported by Keith Brown (67th, 46.34) and Norman Hemming (75th, 49.26). The trio ensured the squad were seventh.

Tony Richards won M60 gold at the South East weight pentathlon championships held at Ewell Court. His 11.10m effort in the shot putt and a 34.75m throw in the javelin were amongst his highlights.

In the pick of the ParkRun action, Peter Chambers was runner-up at Lloyd Park in 17:05,, while Stevie Lawrence and Holly Haile were second and third in the women’s race.

Ben Savill was sixth in Brighton and Hove, while Sarah Bruce-Green was 567th in the women’s race at the Cardiff Half-Marathon.
