FA Cup hero tight-lipped on taking Kingsmeadow hot seat

Wimbledon legend Lawrie Sanchez remains tight-lipped about his interest in taking up the hotseat at Kingsmeadow.

The 52-year-old, who is forever remembered for scoring the winning goal in the Dons' 1988 FA Cup triumph over Liverpool, is presently without a club after being sacked as Barnet manager in April.

AFC Wimbledon are currently inviting applications and should the former Northern Ireland manager voice his interest he would be the romantic option compared with others who have already thrown their name into the hat, including Andy Scott.

However, for the time being Sanchez said: “I have absolutely nothing to say on the matter. Sorry to be blunt, but that is my line."

The deadline for applications is September 25, whereby chief executive Erik Samuleson says the club will decide on a short list and invite candidates for interviews.

He said: "I believe there are several candidates out there who we would look very seriously at, and I believe some of those several would suit us very well.

"I don’t think there is anyone in football who is not aware that the vacancy exists, it is just about making sure they understand the rules."
