Surbiton Ladies make their first appearance in the Women’s Cup final this Saturday.

The Conference East runners-up go into the match as massive underdogs against a Bowdon Hightown side who finished fourth in this season’s Premier Division.

Bowdon have also won the cup three times in the past five seasons, beating Chelmsford 5-0 in 2006, Slough 2-0 in 1997 and Reading 2-1 in 2009.

Reaching the cup final continues Surbiton’s remarkable rise. They were playing in the Surrey Premier League in 2004-05 but four promotions in six seasons have left them just one level below the Premier Division.

Surbiton’s route to the final: Round two beat Sevenoaks 2-1 (Jessica Brooker, Kelly Morgan), round three won 5-1 at Maidstone (Vicky Bryant 2, Caroline Ford, Abi Robinson, Emma Rowland-Jones), quarter-finals beat Reading 3-2 (Helen Grant, Amy Bryant, Vicky Bryant), semi-finals won 3-2 at Sutton Coldfield (Emma Rowland-Jones 2, Helen Grant).

Bowdon Hightown’s route to the final: Round two won 3-2 at Ben Rhydding, round three won 5-0 at Sheffield Hallam, quarter-finals beat Olton & West Warwicks 4-1, semi-finals beat University of Birmingham 2-0.

Surbiton have played three home training games since finishing their league season in March, losing 1-0 to Slough, 3-1 to Buckingham and 2-1 to Sevenoaks.
