Girl band sensation Parade are heading for south west London to launch the new FA Women’s Super League.

Britain’s band of the moment will be performing an exclusive set to kick off the league’s inaugural match between Chelsea Ladies and Arsenal Ladies FC at Tooting & Mitcham United’s Imperial Fields Stadium on Wednesday, April 13.

Satellite broadcaster ESPN is set to beam the hit girl band’s performance live around the world with the action kicking off from 3.30pm before the Chelsea take on Arsenal at their new home for a summer of football at 5.30pm.

Schools and youth organisations from Sutton, Merton, Croydon and Wandsworth are all being invited to the event by the Football Association.

Parade – whose debut single ‘Louder’ went straight into the music chart’s top ten last week – were chosen by the FA to launch the revamped Women’s Super League and back their new Facebook ‘Call the Shots’ campaign.

FA bosses are hoping the girls - Lauren, Sian, Bianca, Jessica and Emily – will help attract thousands of new young fans to the big kick off of the Women’s Super League and engage them by giving youngsters the chance to have a say in key elements of the eight club league and how it develops.

Parade’s Laura Deegan said: “We're very excited to perform for our fans and help support the launch of The FA WSL at Tooting & Mitcham United.

"It will be interesting to find out which song our fans decide we should finish our set with - it's going to be a really fun day."

Singer Deegan revealed that fans will be encouraged to give their views and vote on all kinds of topics, including half-time entertainment, music at matches, match-day programme content and player of the match decisions.

One of the first decisions fans can get involved in is naming the first ever FA WSL league mascot at Imperial Fields.

For the first time in history, the league will take place over the summer months and hopes to attract a wider audience by introducing family friendly activities including keepy-uppy competitions and pillory boards as well as music entertainment before and after matches.

Fans will be able to interact with their favourite players, with live matches and highlights also being broadcast on ESPN.

Deegan added: “Fans should visit facebook.com/FAWSL and follow it throughout the season to find out more about how they can have a say in their league and clubs, and also to have access to lots of exciting behind the scenes news and videos from players.”

Tooting & Mitcham United are managed by former Millwall star Mark Beard and his brother Matt is the manager of Chelsea Ladies.

Terrors chairman Steve Adkins is hoping the club’s fans and many more will support the league’s launch. “This is a tremendous honour for the club to be chosen by the FA to host Chelsea.

"It should make for a fantastic summer of football and we are going all out to bring women’s football to young people across our four local boroughs of Sutton, Merton, Croydon and Wandsworth.”
