Egham’s Terry Friday has reached no fewer than four finals in Surrey competitions this year.

It is believed that the 28-year-old is the first man to have achieved the feat, although Chris Young and Paul Vamvacopoulos have managed three in recent years.

What makes the achievement all the more remarkable is that Friday was an unbadged bowler at the start of the season.

He started bowling at Old Dean BC in 1998 and reached the county U25 singles final in 2002 before moving on to Camberley BC in 2006 and Egham this year.

Friday plays at number two in an Egham rink skipped by Barry Martin in the fours final and in the middle of an Egham triple, skipped by Roy Spencer.

On his own, Arsenal fan Friday has reached the finals of both the open singles and unbadged singles championships.
