Sutton Cricket captain Phil Sampson reckons his side are set to dominate the Surrey League for years to come after they wrapped up the Premier Championship last weekend.

A comfortable victory over Banstead was enough to clinch the title, with Zoheb Sharif and Arun Harinath guiding Sutton home with strong batting displays.

And Sampson insists there is plenty more to come from his side.

He said: “As far as I am concerned this is just the tip of the iceberg.

“Our ultimate ambition at this club is to dominate Surrey cricket for years to come and I think we are set up for that.

“Our second XI won their league, and our youngsters have done really well and we have a constant stream of talent coming through.

“That has been the catalyst for us this season - we have so much talent here that if a player has to miss a game we have a ready-made replacement itching to get a start, and that is pushing everybody on to greater heights.”

Banstead batted first at the weekend and racked up 242 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs, only for Sutton to polish that total off in 44.4 overs thanks to knocks of 68 (Sharif) and 92 (Harinath).

And Sampson paid tribute to his run-scoring stars.

He added: “We are in an extremely fortunate position to be able to call on the likes of Zoheb and Arun and it has played a big part in our success.

“Zoheb has consistently scored runs and a number of county sides would be a lot better off with him in their ranks.

“Arun has come back from injury this year and the pair have added incredible strength to our batting line-up.

“It has been a real team effort though and the squad is looking forward to defending the title next year. ”
