Police investigating a double shooting in Streatham are appealing for anyone who attended a nearby birthday party to come forward.

Officers believe partygoers at the Starlight Rooms on Streatham High Road on Sunday 21 October may hold vital clues.

Gary Guthrie, 35, of Lakeview Road, West Norwood, was shot in the early hours of Monday morning and died at Croydon's Mayday Hospital at 6am.

A post mortem held at Greenwich Mortuary yesterday showed he died as a result of a single bullet wound to the chest.

A second man in his 30s was taken separately to a south London hospital suffering from gunshot wounds and is in a stable condition under armed guard.

DCI Steve Horsley said: "We know both victims, who were friends, attended the party and it's possible that there was an incident there which led to the later attack, outside the venue, when the party closed and people started to leave.

"I need to hear from everyone who was at that party. It's possible you witnessed something without recognising it as significant."

It is believed the shooting happened in the street in Streatham High Road, at the junction with Hopton Road.

A gun abandoned at the scene was recovered by police and is undergoing analysis.

Ten people have been arrested, including male and female suspects, who have been bailed to return to various South London police stations pending further enquiries.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8733 4648, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
