The 21-year-old man found shot dead in a stairwell near the Clapham Stockwell border has been named.

Robel Tewelde, of Surridge Court on the Studley Estate, was found by police in Jephson Court on Studley Road about 11.50pm on Tuesday night after reports of shots being fired.

He was found in a communal stairway on the third floor and ambulance pronounced him dead at the scene.

A postmortem examination will be held at Greenwich mortuary today at 4pm.

Another man, 19, was found nearby suffering serious injuries from broken glass.

The injured man was rushed to a south London hospital where he remains.

A police spokeswoman said the man's injuries had been inflicted after the shooting and were not considered suspicious.

An incident room has opened under Trident's Detective Chief Inspector Adnan Qureshi, who said police were keeping an open mind about the motive behind the murder.

No arrests have been made.
