The mystery pollution that killed hundreds of fish in the River Wandle in Beddington appears to have struck again - with reports of dying fish, discoloured water and a strong bleach-like smell.
A passerby near London Road, Mitcham, reported seeing the effects of the pollution at about 2.30pm today.
A mystery pollution struck in the same spot on August 8, leading customers from the Queen's Head pub in Mill Green Road to rescue the larger fish from the river and take them to bathtubs in nearby houses.
The pollution soon washed away and the Environment Agency promised to investigate.
The passerby said: "It's happened again. I noticed a strong smell and looked down at the river. The water was discoloured and I could see eels and fish coming to the surface dying. People were saying it smelled like chlorine or bleach."
