A British rom-com will join a long list of films, including A Clockwork Orange and Love Actually, that have brought Wandsworth to the silver screen.

In the film All Bar Love, the action is set around Soho and Hyde Park, but all scenes were actually shot in Wandsworth and Wimbledon.

The film's director, James Derbyshire, used St Margaret's Church in Putney to shoot the opening scenes, Clapham Grand for a dance sequence and Roehampton University for the film's ending.

"We filmed every scene in and around Wimbledon, Putney and Clapham," he said. The bars and clubs were just perfect for creating that sexy cosmopolitan feel that we wanted, especially the Ceroc dance scene."

The film is billed as "a Notting Hill with a shot of the 1980s hit Swingers", and James says it proves "you don't need to go into the city to shoot a big city film".

Sarah Mason, film manager at Wandsworth Council, said filmakers love the area. "Battersea Park is the third most popular location to film in London and Wandsworth had more than 800 film days last year," she said.

"It is so popular due to the diverse range of locations and the reputation of the film office which was established 10 years ago."

Next month Run Fat Boy Run, a film directed by Friends star David Schwimmer, will be released. A key scene from that flick was shot in Battersea Park.

But star-spotters should be on the lookout this week for Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Gillian Anderson and Jeff Bridges, who are all filming the comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, at a secret location in the borough.
