British Transport Police have targeted a group of nuisance youths for their antisocial behaviour at Surrey railway stations.

Six juveniles have so far been arrested after police reviewed CCTV at stations in Hinchley Wood and Claygate and executed warrants to arrest the suspects at their homes.

Police said antisocial behaviour has been an ongoing problem at these stations.

Inspector Graham Urry said: "Antisocial behaviour involving groups of youths at both stations was linked to other criminal activity that was affecting the quality of life of local residents, the travelling public and rail staff.

"This should send a clear message for youngsters to think again before engaging in antisocial behaviour.

"If you chose to do so, you will be identified, we will come and knock on your door and you will be apprehended."

He said police spent six months using covert and overt policing tactics to collate information on youths who gathered at the stations, with six persistent offenders, aged 15 to 16, being identified.

The operation involved BTP, Surrey Police and Travel Safe Officers and staff from South West Trains.

All six juveniles faced Kingston Youth Court for a series of offences dating back to November last year.

Four came from Kingston and two from Chessington and the court imposed various orders on the youths, including six to 12 month supervision orders for public order offences and fines. Two of the youths were given antisocial behaviour contracts.
