Purley-born illusionist Derren Brown has been nominated for a Bafta.
The 36-year-old, famous for staging a Russian roulette style stunt in 2004, is in the running for the best entertainment programme for his show The Heist.
The show, where the former Whitgift School pupil managed to convince participants in a motivational seminar to rob a security van, is up against Dancing On Ice and The X Factor.
Brown has courted controversy in the past. He was slammed by police chiefs for his Russian roulette show, and his Channel 4 programme The Séance attracted 700 complaints, many of them before it had even been shown.
The results of this year's Baftas will be announced at a ceremony at the London Palladium on May 20.
