The Twickenham woman who started legal proceedings against British Airways, because they won't let her wear a cross around her neck has rejected a compromise offer to come back to work.

Check-in worker Nadia Eweida, 55 was said to have been forced to take unpaid leave, which was denied by BA, and would not go back to work unless the airline relented.

She has now turned down the chance to comeback to work behind the scenes, a move Twickenham MP Vince Cable described as insulting.

Dr Cable said: "Nadia has heard from BA, but they have not come to a definite decision.

"They have informed her that she can return and be paid if she works in the personnel department where her cross cannot be seen.

"It is utterly insulting and completely wrong, and completely fails to grasp the seriousness of the issue."

A British Airways spokesperson said Miss Eweida could come back to work at any time if she adhered to the uniform standard.

She said if Miss Eweida wanted to work in a uniform job she had to work within that policy.
