The Thames was at one of its highest levels in years yesterday, with more gates open than there have been since 2002.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) sent a warning to river users, particularly those with boats moored, to be careful. It came as a man was arrested after jumping in the river near Kingston Bridge on Friday, when the river was running quite fast.
On Monday night a rowing eight and two training boats were reported to be in trouble.
By the time the RNLI arrived the crews had struggled to safety, but had to abandon their boats on Ravens Ait.
The RNLI based in Twickenham said recent rain had significantly raised the level of water and, with a big tide expected at 5pm on Tuesday, emergency call outs were on the cards.
