BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg was left hugely disappointed with his side’s performance after losing 2-0 at home to rivals Welling in front of a bumper home crowd of more than 1,300 on Saturday.

With the international break meaning no games for teams in the Premier League and Championship, Saturday was crowned national Non-League Day.

But the Lillywhites seemed to let the occasion get to them as they failed to perform with the Sky Sports cameras there to capture the occasion.

Welling took a deserved lead when Theo Fairweather-Johnson thumped home Joe Healy’s pass into an empty net on 35 minutes to score his first competitive goal for the Wings.

Goldberg was left frustrated on the sidelines with Bromley rarely threatening and things got worse for the hosts as Wings skipper Lee Clarke bundled the ball home to double his side’s lead just after the interval.

Despite Richard Pacquette hitting the bar 10 minutes later, Bromley never looked like getting back into the game and Goldberg admitted the result was hard to take.

He said: “I am really disappointed with the way we played today.

“We got what we deserved, which was to lose 2-0.

“In the first half we were second to every ball and we didn’t create enough.

“I expected us to not only win the battles, but to get the balls early into the box and we simply didn’t do it.

“The second goal came at a difficult time for us, so I was just so disappointed.

“I thought we created a lot more and got the ball into dangerous areas but we just didn’t look like scoring.”

Bromley welcome Conference North side Worchester City to Hayes Lane this Saturday in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.

But Goldberg, who has a good history with Bromley in England’s oldest cup competition, is still trying to come to terms with last Saturday's defeat.

He has guided the Lillywhites to three first round proper rounds in the FA Cup against Gillingham, Colchester United and Leyton Orient during his three spells as manager.

But despite his history in the competition, which has seen him bow out of the first round on all three occasions, Goldberg admitted it will take him time before he can look forward to Saturday’s anticipated fixture following his side's poor showing against Welling. The boss added: “We will look forward to Saturday after Tuesday, it takes me a couple of days to get over a result like this.

“We are looking to do well in the FA Cup but we have to improve in the league. We can’t carry on as a team which is capable of doing a lot more but just not performing well enough.

“I am very disappointed in ourselves today but we will have to pick ourselves up for Worcester, which is a massive game.”
