Fifteen fire engines and up to 75 firefighters tackled a fire at Beddington sewage works last night.
Crews are damping down the site this morning after 80 per cent of a building, which measures 70 metres by 50 metres, was alight.
Residents in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows shut as a large plume of smoke was coming from the site.
London Fire Brigade was called at 6.34pm and crews from Wallington and the surrounding area were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
