A popular pensioner celebrated her 100th birthday last week at the community centre she has attended for the past 20 years.
Gladys Poole, from Tooting, celebrated the milestone at the New Horizon Centre in Pollards Hill, Mitcham, on Wednesday, August 8.
She said: “I’ve been coming to Pollards Hill lunch club for several years now and thoroughly enjoy it.
“I enjoy the company, the food and the entertainment there.
“I am very grateful to Vivien, Christine, Maureen and Joy [lunch club staff] for all their help.
“I really look forward to the three days that I attend the club.”
Naomi Martin, director of the centre in South Lodge Avenue, said: “Gladys always shows kindness to other lunch club members, enquiring about their well-being if she has not seen them in a while.
“She stays in touch with the staff and volunteer team at the lunch club and always rings to let them know if she is not coming for lunch.
“The team all hope Gladys will continue to attend the club for many years.”
