BROMLEY manager Mark Goldberg says he only expects to add one more signing to his present squad ahead of the new season.

The Lillywhites have kept the majority of the squad who escaped relegation last year and Goldberg is determined to build success with the same group, hinting he is only likely to add another striker. Goldberg said: “This is the squad now.

“I don’t want to be in a position where I am not giving my players the right preparation, but I am potentially looking for one more centre forward.

“It is the first time I have been here and been able to start the season with the same group of players.

“I bought in three or four new players from last year where I knew we needed to plug some holes. I wanted two more strikers and a new right back.

“It’s great because they really know what goes on and the way we want to play, we have that core spine.

“There is not a lot of getting to know each other, which you normally have and might take 10 or 12 games of the season.

“We should go into the season a lot more focused and ready for starting well.”

Bromley enjoyed an easy 3-0 win over neighbours Cray Wanderers on Saturday, with returning forward Ali Chaaban scoring twice and Michael Malcolm with the other.

The striker Goldberg could add to the squad is likely to be Hakeem Araba, who is out of contract but likely to remain at Hayes Lane.

After an intense season where his side avoided relegation by three points, the Bromley boss switched off completely for three weeks before the start of pre-season.

But he was keen to point out Bromley don’t want to repeat last year’s nail-biting finish.

He said: “As a player you can do your best work in pre-season but as a manager I try and unwind where I don’t even think about football other than watching it on television.

“We want to do better than last year, we don’t want to be in a relegation battle. We would like to push on above mid-table.

“We have a sensible budget this year but a modest one, a budget which is probably half of the likes of Chelmsford and Dover but it is still a sensible one.

“If we punch above our weight, we should be pushing for play-offs.”

Bromley have also welcomed back striker Warren McBean, who had to be subbed early on against Cray after appearing to turn his ankle, while the inclusion of youngster Chris Peach seems to be a very shrewd move by Goldberg.

The former Crewe player came on as a late second half substitute but instantly made his mark on the game with some impressive passes.

New addition Sanchez Ming was one of Bromley’s best attacking outlets at right back, something they missed from the same position last year.

Goldberg wants to try and impose a more attacking style to his side and is keen to build on this before the start of the season.

He said: “We have a very simple footballing system here and they are all getting to understand it.

“I want to play quite an attacking way this season.

“Without giving too much away, it's really about doing things quickly and not holding on to the ball in areas where we want to speed it up and catch the opposition off-guard.”
