Epsom and Ewell marked its 75th anniversary with a celebration parade through the town centre on Saturday.

Hundreds turned out to watch the parade march from Upper High Street to Rosebery Park where entertainment and exhibitions had been organised for visitors to enjoy.

The parade was led by the Royal Artillery Band and was followed by the Independent Geographic Royal Engineers (V) squadron from Ewell, the Army Cadet Force, the Air Cadets, local scout groups, the territorial army, police and vehicles from the Royal Automobile Club.

A flag was also raised on the day to mark Armed Forces Day on June 30.

Councillor Clive Woodbridge said: "I thought the parade went very well and reflected the amount of hard work put into it behind the scenes.

"Judging by people's faces as we went past I think those who came along and watched enjoyed it as much as those who took part in the parade itself."

Councillor Sheila Carlson agreed: "Seeing the servicemen marching always brings a lump to my throat, and I was especially proud that some us fitter councillors were able to march behind them through the town."
