Two friends have come up with an innovative approach to a charity walk, tracing the outline of Africa across seven counties.

Chris Denson, 37, and James Hanks, 34, are aiming to cover 200m in total living off a limited budget, to raise awareness and funds for the UK charity Friends Reaching Out.

The inspiration came from Ed Stafford, who became the first man to walk the length of the Amazon in South America, from the source to the sea.

The ambitious schedule involves covering 20m a day and living off just £2 a day, for the 10 days, and will pass through Redhill, Reigate, Leatherhead and Esher from the April 6 to 7.

As part of the walk, Mr Denson hopes to be able to liaise with other church and community groups to help raise awareness of the cause.

Mr Denson explained: “Just £20 covers a child’s education, medication, accommodation, food and clothing for a month.”

Friends Reaching Out aims to build a new primary school in Uganda, and Mr Denson aims to go out to help them after the walk.

The full Trace Africa initiative runs from April 6 to April 15.
