A football freestyler and multiple world record holder impressed pupils with his tricks at the opening of their new play area.

Children at King’s Oak Primary School in New Malden excitedly watched on as Dan Magness bounced and balanced a football in a spectacular display showcasing his skills.

The freestyler holds the record for controlling a football in the air for a marathon 26 hours and also for managing 340 consecutive football touches with his shoulders.

Mr Magness hoped to show what can be achieved through setting challenges, hours of practice, never giving up and believing ‘I can do it’; an ethos echoed by the school.

The showcase marked the opening of reception classes’ new outside learning area, which includes a tepee centrepiece, tree house and climbing equipment.

Designers Ireland Albrecht Landscape Architects and Warwick Landscaping Ltd aimed to create an innovative, creative and exciting-but-safe outside learning space.

The audience of 356 children, who were joined by council representatives, parents, carers, staff and governors, enjoyed exploring the new area after the display on Friday, November 25.

Headteacher, Cathy Clarke, said “It is fantastic to see our children so enthusiastic about their new learning area.

“We are very grateful to Don Albrecht and the Warwick Landscaping team who worked incredibly hard to turn our dreams into reality.

“Access to a high quality outdoor environment has a huge impact on how positive and successful children’s early years’ experiences are and builds secure foundations for future achievements.

“Whether world records or other successes, we know that our new outside area will enhance and benefit children’s learning for years to come.”
