I blame the “yes” campaign over the alternative vote referendum (AV) result.
They should have pushed the “once in a lifetime chance to change the archaic and unfair first-past-the-post system” angle, but they didn’t.
AV wasn’t perfect, but its adoption, maybe, could have started the ball rolling towards a fairer system of proportional representation.
But no, we’re stuck with first-past-the-post and election after election of safe seats and wasted votes.
