Thanks to the generous support of Tesco in New Malden, West Barnes Safer Neighbourhoods Team are now the proud owners of a brand new police mountain bike.

Merton's Safer Neighbourhoods Teams patrol their dedicated patch on foot and by bicycle, providing a highly visible and approachable local police service to each Ward area.

West Barnes SNT have developed a close working partnership with Tesco in New Malden, who have supported recent police operations such as the Automatic Number Plate Recognition in West Barnes Lane.

Tesco support a range of local community initiatives and events and after a meeting with PCSO James Lewis, offered to support his team by providing a brand new pedal cycle for the dedicated use of the West Barnes SNT.

Karen Cooper-Liles, Community Champion for Tesco New Malden, said "The West Barnes SNT do a great job and we are always pleased to see them here at our New Malden store. We really wanted to do something to support the team, and hope this new bike helps them continue their good work in our community."

PCSO James Lewis said "On behalf of West Barnes Safer Neighbourhoods Team and Merton Borough Police, I'd really like to thank Karen and all her colleagues at Tesco New Malden for their very generous support. A pedal cycle is a really useful piece of kit for us - we can easily get to any part of the ward, respond to calls and be very approachable out on the beat. This new mountain bike is a great addition to our team!"

Mountain bikes are used for routine patrol by trained police officers and PCSOs.

The bikes display high visibility "POLICE" markings and livery, and carry a range of equipment including first aid kit, tools, police notebooks, forms and other items.
