A man was stabbed repeatedly and left for dead following a savage attack in Mitcham on Sunday morning.
The victim, whose identity has not been released by police, is thought to have been stabbed up to five times in the back and was admitted to hospital in a critical condition at 2am.
Another man received head injuries during the incident, next to a bus stop on the corner of London Road and Victoria Road, Figges Marsh.
Police said the stab victim is now in a stable condition, although he remains in hospital. The second man’s injuries are less serious.
A section of London Road and Victoria Road was closed on Sunday morning by investigating police. No arrests have been made.
According to a resident who did not wish to be named, the attack was the result of a failed robbery. He added the victim was eastern European and was known as a regular drinker in the area.
A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a fight and found a man who had multiple stab wounds. He’s currently still in hospital, in a critical condition.”
