A two day power cut hitting homes and businesses in Lower Morden sparked fury last week.

Home and businesses owners claimed they were being left in the dark by EDF Energy after the power provider failed to explain why several attempts to fix the problem were unsuccessful.

Power was finally fully restored at 2.30am on Sunday after failing on Thursday evening, affecting 38 properties in Garth Road.

Councillor Maurice Groves, who was in the black out zone, said: “I was ringing them [EDF Energy] at 4am on Friday when there was still no power and no one was coming out. Eventually they tried to fix things but that didn’t do the job.

“There are a lot of companies that have been affected by this and it feels like we’ve been treated with utter contempt.”

A spokesman for EDF said a complex fault in the electricity network resulted in the loss of power those and added those left without power for more than 18 hours will be offered a minimum of £54 as a gesture of goodwill.

He said: “We recognise how difficult it was for those without power for such a long time and have written to them to apologise.”
