A teenager was shot in the neck in Mitcham yesterday evening.

An air ambulance was rushed close to the scene in St Mark’s Road where an emergency doctor treated the 17-year-old.

He was taken to hospital by road ambulance, where he remains in a stable condition. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The incident comes within two weeks of a triple stabbing in Phipps Bridge - which has left a father and son with potentially life changing injuries - and a shooting on the same estate, three weeks ago.

Officers from Operation Trident are investigating last night’s incident. No arrests have been made.

Police were called to the scene at about 5.40pm to reports of gun fire in the area. Shortly after, emergency services received another call to further reports of a teenager injured in a shooting.

Residents and shoppers in Fair Green watched on as the air ambulance touched down shortly before 6pm.

One onlooker said: “There were an awful lot of shocked people as it was the middle of the day.”
