Deaths and serious injuries on Merton's roads fell last year, new figures have shown.
Two people were killed in 2009 compared to four in 2008, according to new road accident statistics published by Transport for London (TfL). Last year 53 people were seriously injured in traffic accidents, compared to 60 in 2008.
The figures also revealed three teenagers were killed or seriously injured on Merton's roads in 2009. Across London, the total of deaths and serious injuries fell by 8 per cent.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: "Everyone involved in achieving this result deserves our thanks. But they must not lose their focus. Every accident on our roads is an accident too many and we need to continue to invest in road safety projects and improvements in order to keep this downward trend heading in the right direction."
