The Hovpod is the latest addition to Brooklands Museum’s ever-expanding collection of cars and innovative machinery.

It is a specially-designed leisure hovercraft and, throughout weekdays in August, visitors to the Weybridge museum can buy flights for just £3 per person.

Visitors can experience the thrill of riding on a cushion of air in the heart of the Motoring Village, beneath the historic banking where motoring greats crossed the finish line when the site was used as a racing track.

“The hovercraft is a British invention, developed in the 50s, so we thought it was only appropriate that it came to Brooklands. The chance to ride in one is very rare indeed,” said museum public relations officer Roger Ramage.

“The whirr of the engine when it starts up is similar to a big sit-on lawn mower. It really is very exciting to ride in, almost like a fairground ride.”

Two passengers can ride at one time, behind pilot Darren Thatcher who normally operates the rides from his Woking site For more details visit brooklandsmuseum or call 01932 857381.
