A male has been taken to hospital with gunshot wounds injuries as police are investigating a firearm discharge in Mitcham.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage to get in touch with them.

The investigation was launched after police were called at around 11.30pm on Saturday, May 6 to reports that a firearm had been discharged in Clarendon Grove, Mitcham.

Officers were later informed that a male victim had been taken to hospital with gunshot injuries to his back.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Initial enquiries suggest that the incident happened on Clarendon Road, when the victim was approached by a man, who discharged a firearm into the vehicle he was sitting in.

Urgent enquiries are ongoing.

Police ask that anyone with information 101 or tweet @MetCC giving the reference CAD 7369/06MAY.

Information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, online or by calling 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Mat Freeman of the Met’s Specialist Crime North said: “We know that when this incident happened there were members of public and vehicles driving nearby.

“Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw or heard anything suspicious at around that time.

“Also, if you were driving in the area, did you record something on dashcam?

“Any piece of information, no matter how irrelevant it may seem, could be crucial in piecing together what took place.”
