A man who subjected a woman to a two hour sexual assault in a Sutton shop has been detained in a secure mental health institution for an 'unlimited' period.
Edward Briscoe, 37, of Ferndale Road, Brixton, had been held in custody since August 1 after being arrested for the shop assault earlier the same day.
He was found guilty on February 22 of five counts of grave sexual assault and was sentenced yesterday at Croydon Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Chris Grant, Investigating officer at Sutton, said: "Without the support of the victim, a successful prosecution would not have been possible.
"She has shown immense courage and dignity throughout the investigation and during the court proceedings where she has had to relive a harrowing ordeal.
"As a result, this dangerous man is detained in a secure hospital where he can pose no risk to the public."
