New plans for Merton Hall will be put forward in an upcoming planning committee after a previous application was thrown out by councillors.

An application to part-demolish some of the building, and add a glass triangular section to the side, was rejected in April. Councillors sitting on the committee said plans were 'monstrous' and 'unnecessary'.

The design was ultimately refused as the proposed design was not in line with the original character of the Edwardian building, built in 1899, or of the Merton Manor club next door.

Merton Council have confirmed they are working towards the plans going back to the Planning Committee in September.

The building is currently used as a community centre, which will be moved to old offices on Pincott Road, according campaign group Save Wimbledon Town.

Images from the new planning documents show the applicants have adjusted designs of the extension they want added. Plans to create a new worship hall, café, foyer and meeting rooms still appear to be included in the new application.

Comments on the application will be taken until August 18. Planning documents can be found on the portal under application number 17/P2668.
