Adult carers in Merton are to exhibit their nature photography at Morden Hall Park after a successful series of workshops concluded last week.

Carers Support Merton put on the project, called Creative:Voices, in collaboration with arts charity Create from March 8 to May 3.

The workshops were guided by photographer Tracey Fahy, whose work includes commissions for the Barbican and English National Ballet, and were aimed at giving adult carers a creative outlet and the opportunity to socialise away from their intensive caring responsibilities.

An exhibition of the photos, which are inspired by Merton’s green spaces, will be displayed at the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park later this year.

The workshops covered a range of photographic techniques and carried a particular focus on extreme close-up macro photography.

The demands placed on adults who care for someone with a long-term illness or disability can be extremely tough, with statistics from Carers UK indicating that eight in ten carers have felt lonely or socially isolated as a result.

The co-founder and chief executive of Create, Nicky Goulder, said: “The Creative:Voices photography workshops offer time away from caring responsibilities, encouraging creative thinking and collaboration with others.

“The interactive sessions help nurture both new skills and new friendships and we’re excited to see the work the group has produced.”
