A Morden-based charity is celebrating a £15,000 funding boost after a star-studded event featuring a silent auction with celebrity guests.

Swansea City legends helped to raise more than £15,000 for Morden-based charity Zimkids at a ‘Question of Sport’ themed event at the Liberty Stadium in Wales.

More than 450 guests, including retired rugby player Jonathan Davies and ex-Wales rugby captain Ryan Jones, were at the event hosted by broadcaster and actor Kevin Johns MBE.

The silent auction saw signed Swansea City FC shirts and footballs, an All Blacks shirt signed by Dan Carter and Chanel perfume auctioned off to raise money for the charity.

Zimkids provides brighter futures for vulnerable children and families in Zimbabwe.

Its director Charlene Stotter, said: “We are amazed and humbled by the generosity of the people of Swansea who helped us create such an incredible fundraising event."

Some of the Swansea City team members that were part of the ‘Question of Sport’ inspired fundraiser included Neil Taylor, Leon Britton, Marvin Emnez, Lukasz Fabianski, Ashley Williams and Lee Trundle.

Swansea City’s head physiotherapist Kate Rees and physiotherapist Ann-Marie Hutchinson will visit Zimbabwe in June as volunteers to help provide crucial medical advice and support to the Zimkids teams in Harare and the neighbouring areas.
