A woman who was knocked unconscious and needed stitches after “rejecting the advances” of a man in Mitcham town centre has been discharged from hospital.

The 23-year-old woman, who was the victim of what police are calling a “nasty unprovoked attack”, was originally thought to have broken her jaw.

However, police confirmed today that her jaw was not broken, although she has severe bruising and has had stitches to her chin.

The woman was hospitalised for several days after being attacked outside the Barclays Bank on Upper Green East shortly before midnight on Friday, March 4.

She was punched and knocked momentarily unconscious by a man, who was in a group of three males, after she rejected his advances.

No arrests have been made, and police have issued CCTV images of three men they want to speak to in connection with the attack.

The images show three young men dressed in black walking along a street. The group of men have been described as “of interest” by the police, who are urgently seeking to identify them.

The main suspect is described as black and between 17 and 20 years-old.

He is of medium build, and between five foot nine and five foot 10.

He has a short 'box style' haircut, and was wearing a black-hooded jacket, black trousers, and navy blue trainers.
