EastEnders star Danny Dyer brought in the New Year by sampling the delights of local Indian restaurant Chak 89, describing it as the ‘best curry house in the world’.

The actor who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, was a surprise guest of the Mitcham restaurant on New Year’s Eve, writes Janith Aranze.

Owner of the restaurant, Frank Khalid, said: "He was absolutely fantastic.

"A lot of people were pleased to see him. It was a completely surprise visit, I can’t say exactly what he had to eat but luckily we had a photographer there as it was New Year's Eve."
