EastEnders star Danny Dyer brought in the New Year by sampling the delights of local Indian restaurant Chak 89, describing it as the ‘best curry house in the world’.
The actor who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, was a surprise guest of the Mitcham restaurant on New Year’s Eve, writes Janith Aranze.

Owner of the restaurant, Frank Khalid, said: "He was absolutely fantastic.
"A lot of people were pleased to see him. It was a completely surprise visit, I can’t say exactly what he had to eat but luckily we had a photographer there as it was New Year's Eve."

There were about 600 people in the restaurant at the time, and Mr Dyer happily posed for pictures with delighted fans.
He can be seen proudly posing with a fresh pint of beer or lager as enthusiastic bar staff look on.

The celebrity is a friend of the restaurant and has been very supportive of the charity work that the restaurant does.
The Chak 89 owner said: "Once a year we always support a charity and he comes into support the charity function we put on."
The Football factory star even left the restaurant a New Year video message saying: "Happy New Year Chak 89, beautiful gaff, I love it, I’ll see you at the next charity event. Best curry house in the country, I say the world."
The EastEnders star is not the first celebrity to pass through the doors of Chak 89. Last year Michelle Keegan, Emelie Sande, John Terry, Labrinth, Dappy and Carl Froch were all guests of the restaurant.
