Christmas has been ruined for a family after two men broke into their home and stole Christmas presents worth thousands of pounds from under the decorated tree.

The men also destroyed cuddly toys and games meant for a baby and trod dirty footprints through the house during the burglary.

CCTV footage filmed at 9.59pm on Saturday, December 12 in the home shows the two men take the presents from the Christmas tree. They returned to the home in Ashbourne Road, Mitcham, at 5.43am on Sunday, December 13.

The men are believed to have climbed over the rear garden fence before breaking into the back of the house. 

Jewellery, photographic equipment, a tablet and a laptop were all taken from under the family tree which had the presents wrapped ready for excited children to open them on Christmas day.

Police have released CCTV footage of two men believed to be in their 20s that they want to speak to in relation to the burglary.

The first man is described as having thick eyebrows and was wearing a hoodie with three stripes on the shoulders, jeans, trainers and gloves.

The second man is a slim black man with a dark beard and was wearing a dark coloured zip up jacket on top of a light coloured hoodie, loose fitting trousers, dark trainers and gloves.
